Feed the Future Burma Fish for Livelihoods funded by USAID

Market System Development Training:

The Feed the Future Burma Fish for Livelihoods project team in collaboration with a private consulting firm conducted 3-days person Market System Development training in Yangon with the main objective of improving awareness of how the market system plays an important role in improving livelihoods of smallholder farmers. The training had more than 65 participants, including growers, processors, traders, hatchery and nursery operators, feed producers, partners, and WorldFish staff, with a balanced gender representation. The methodology combined focused lectures, interactive group activities, and trainer-led coaching to ensure an engaging learning experience.

The training aimed to enhance collaboration, understanding, and adaptation within the aquaculture/inland fisheries sector. The training focused on five key objectives:

Facilitate interaction: Creating a platform for interaction between market actors and WorldFish staff to foster communication and mutual understanding. Understand market systems: Educating participants on market dynamics and their impact on small-scale aquaculture. Promote collaboration: Exploring ways for effective cooperation between the private and development sectors to improve small enterprise livelihoods. Adapt to market changes: Discussing the impact of political developments on market systems and strategies for the aquaculture sector. Network building: Providing networking opportunities for diverse participants to form future collaborations.

The training successfully met its objectives, providing a comprehensive insight into market systems development. The participatory approach, coupled with the diverse backgrounds of participants, laid a solid foundation for future collaboration and innovation in the aquaculture sector, particularly in Activity’s intervened States and Regions and generally in Myanmar.
